Wifinity has released its new Defence Sector Annual Report for 2025. It highlights our continued commitment to delivering connectivity to Ministry of Defence (MOD) establishments to improve the lived experience and operational efficiency.

Wifinity provides connectivity for both B2C and B2B use cases, underlining our position as a trusted provider of smart base connectivity for:

B2C deployments include single living accommodation (SLA) blocks to service family accommodation (SFA) homes, to eSports facilities, mess halls, heritage centres, contact houses, transit blocks, other temporary accommodation under our continued connectivity improvement programme.

In 2024, we completed 35 new B2B deployments. These included MOD premises inside and outside of the wire, campus WiFi, connectivity for defence contractors and temporary visitors.

We work directly with the site; centrally with the support of the DIO; Front-Line Command (FLC) Digital Teams, Defence Digital or through contractual agreements with aggregated service providers at defence establishments including Aspire Defence, Mitie, Sodexo, Aramark and Serco. These providers work with Wifinity to add internet connectivity to the managed services they then provide the MOD.

In September, Wifinity was also proud to be awarded the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award for our support of veterans, reservists and the wider defence community. We previously held the silver award. Since founding in 2007, we have prioritised delivering armed forces connectivity to MOD bases and families. We understand the challenges service personnel face and have designed our business around the sector.

Looking ahead to 2025, Wifinity’s point of presence on over 150 MOD sites makes us uniquely placed to make the reality of a smart base happen.

Our infrastructure is already in place at these sites to support partners and any MOD department, service or third party in the defence ecosystem. Our network fabric provides a strong digital backbone for both on-site and remote use cases. This includes helping the Ministry of Defence in its ambition to adopt AI tools.

Both our rollout and upgrade programme are part of a strategic plan, which has seen Wifinity invest millions of pounds to deliver WiFi to as many MOD bed spaces, new blocks and communal areas as possible.

With the support of the DIO, we work with local defence, or local operational teams, to understand troop movement, recruit intake and the site building and redevelopment programme, so service personnel are connected where they most need it.

New SLA Sites

Our SLA WiFi service expanded to brand new establishments, connecting 3,460 bedspaces plus over 1,500 in new blocks at existing sites. These increase the number of places where SLA residents can access our WiFi service.

Our passes and subscriptions continue to be available for use at more than 150 sites to support service personnel redeployed or attending training.

Wifinity's Digital Defence Infrastructure

Our infrastructure and service differs from MOD-commissioned networks where flexibility to run commercial services are limited.

We already layer business services on our networks for service providers like Aspire, Sodexo and Mitie. By provisioning a service VLAN from our point of presence, delivering new network and carrier infrastructure is far more economical.

We can also provide indoor and outdoor public and corporate WiFi, WAN and LAN infrastructure to enable seamless communication and data exchange across any MOD department, modernise operations and reduce long-term costs. This is already in place at RAF Woodvale.

With our experience of working with large public sector organisations, we can provide a robust digital backbone from simple to complex use cases to support the modernisation of the defence sector as shown below.

Our solutions enable greater operational efficiency and resilience for simple to complex use cases, supporting advanced tools including real-time data analytics, IoT-enabled systems and AI-driven operational tools.

A View of 2025

Wifinity continues to expand connectivity to the MOD estate across different use cases and demographics.

We have already deployed new services at the REME Museum at MOD Lyneham, RAF Halton, RAF Marham, St George's Barracks, Bicester Garrison, Marne Barracks eSports suite and upgraded RAF Wyton.

Our team is also preparing to provide new connectivity infrastructure at HMS Sultan in Q2, one of the Royal Navy's premier training establishments.

With an aggressive programme of upgrades and new locations, we have an ambitious plan for new services and upgrades across 2025.

We’re also set to announce new B2B premises upgrades and new sites, including eSports suites and other buildings on base.

Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award

In October, Wifinity was one of just 200 organisations to receive the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award.

It highlights the positive role employers play in supporting defence and inspiring others to do the same.

Beyond our products and services, the award also recognises our employment policies. These include guaranteed interviews for all service personnel, extra paid leave for reservists, supportive HR policies for reservists, veterans, Cadet Force adult volunteers, and the spouses and partners of those serving in the armed forces.

10% of our staff are veterans or reservists. Staff are MOD security cleared to simplify site access.
